"On December 10, 2020, Quebec Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barette introduced Bill 84 to amend provincial laws on assistance and compensation for victims of crime. The new law, adopted on May 13, 2021 and which will be in force in October 2021, makes it possible to offer support, mainly in the form of financial assistance, to certain types of recognized victims of a criminal offence against the person, namely victims of the act, their relatives, as well as witnesses to the crime. The adoption of this law aims to promote the sustainable recovery of victims, despite a partial recognition of victimizations."
